Law student gets HOPE Scholarship

Khadija Dottin is the first recipient of the inaugural HOPE (Helping Others Pursue

Education) Scholarship instituted by the Tyrese Caesar Foundation Against Gun

Violence.

Dottin, a second-year law student at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill

Campus, was recently presented with the $6 000 award at a ceremony in the Sky Mall

Conference Room, Haggatt Hall, St Michael.

She was selected from six applicants following a rigorous review. The funds will

support her studies as she pursues her ambition of becoming a prosecutor within

Barbados’ justice system.

The presentation marked the culmination of a journey that began when the HOPE

Scholarship Programme was officially launched by Central Bank Governor, Dr The Most

Honourable Kevin Greenidge, at the foundation’s Fanfare For Peace Fanfare For Peace Fanfare For Peace Fanfare For Peace annual charity dinner last September at Mahogany Ridge in St James.

The selection committee praised Dottin’s academic commitment, the strength of her

personal statement and her demonstrated dedication to community healing and

violence prevention – values at the heart of the foundation’s mission.

Jacqueline Caesar, chair of the foundation, urged more individuals to be actively

involved in community and social work, and where possible, to transfer skills and

knowledge. She appealed to corporate Barbados to support such initiatives geared

towards strengthening communities and the nation overall.

The HOPE Scholarship’s main sponsors were Dusor Chartered Architects Inc., Richard

Moore Trucking, Guardsman Barbados Inc. and Thanise Investment Inc., while there
